Football Bolos!

ASU Football ASU Football
Go Sundevils!

I have been having fun carving the football helmet bolo ties, but the real fun is in the painting. Let me tell you that Sparky the Sundevil is not that easy to paint. For that matter, the Denver Bronco's symbol isn't to simple either. I think they both turned out okay.

I have also been experimenting with techniques to weather or antique some of the bolos. The pirates and the mountain men in particular don't look to authentic when they look like they just got out of a shower. I have added a healthy layer of dirt to each one for a fun effect.

I figured that since I was making a few of them dirty, I would also make a few of them look like they actually do work. Take a look at the fireman and the railroad engineer!

I have been experimenting with other carving projects that I hope to get posted here real soon.

Barber Shave

New Shave Soap!

It has been a while since I have posted here, but I wanted to take the time to let those who are interested know about a great place to get some quality, homemade shave soaps. They sell via an Ebay store called Chelsea's Soap Garden. Here is the link:

I just received my first order of them, and they are very good. The soap lathers up really fast into nice big foam, and it provides excellent lubrication on the skin to avoid nicks and cuts. The scents they provide are very nice as well. I am currently using the Polo Blue scent, but I like the smell of the Bay Rum soap the best. It makes for a nice way to start the day!

If you order multiple quantities the soap comes out to be a reasonable price because you save on shipping.

The Great Mormon Secret!!

I had this picture emailed to me, and just wanted to share! It might be digitally altered, but the humor and truth is still valid. Beware of those prayers about the Book of Mormon, or you might end up like me having a better defined purpose in life and being a happier person!

A perfect 1 for 2 dart splitting streak!!!!!

A perfect 1 out of 2 dart splitting streak! A perfect 1 out of 2 dart splitting streak!
This is real!!! I actually hit the same dart that I had just thrown. It looked cooler in real life! It's like hitting a hole in one!

This picture does not do this justice. I like to throw darts every now and then, but I am not terribly consistant in my thows. I was trying really hard this day to get them all grouped together and I managed to throw one bullseye with the next dart sticking in the first dart! This has to be like a hole in one for the world of dart throwing. The caption refers to a "Liken the Scriptures" movie titled Samuel the Lamanite.

Newest selection of bolo ties!

Here are some new styles that I have tried to carve lately. I think they turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. I have also posted about 12 other new pictures in the bolo tie gallery. Be sure to take a look at the new ones!

Barber Shave

Shaving. . .Pain or Pleasure?

What a tedious, sometime painful task shaving can be! Maybe that is why I have had facial hair so often, but I have found a different way of shaving that has changed my outlook on this morning ritual. The term that is used for this type of shaving is wet shaving, and it involves more than just the typical aerosol can and disposable razors! Now, my one of my favorite parts of the morning is shaving my face, and when I mention this to people who know me, they usually want to know what changed. I decided to post some of my findings here every now and then, but I need to start by giving all interested persons a link to the most informative location for wet shaving that I have found in my search for the ‘perfect shave.’

This guy has put together a very comprehensive explanation of the process and the tools (tools are alway fun!) necessary.

Women have so many ways of making themselves look good (make-up, hair, facials, manicures, pedicures, etc.), but guys really don't take much time to pamper themselves. This is one small way do something for yourself (guys) that will make you feel good about yourself. I will add that my wife loves how smooth my face is after I have shaved and how long is stays smooth (a definite bonus!).

Holiday Preparation!

It is time to start preparing for the upcoming holidays, and although it is still a ways off, it is not too early to do something! What holiday you say? No...not Valentine's Day! The fun holiday, St. Patty's Day! Find out what your Irish name would be here:

The most recent additions to my woodcarving photo gallery.

Just to let everyone who is interested know that there is a new picture in the woodcarving gallery! This one was almost more fun to paint than it was to carve!

Pictures of wood carvings added to my photos!

I took the time this morning to take pictures of a few of the carvings I have done lately, and they are posted here in my gallery. The majority of what I carve are caricature bolo ties. To the untrained eye the purpose or meaning behind these might be lost, but to most Boy Scouts and their leaders, these are a fun addition to their uniforms. In fact, I began carving them in order to offer them as awards and incentives for Cub Scouts in our local Pack and for those Boy Scout who earned their Eagle award. I actually learned to carve them from a friend of Bill Burch (the man that made these types of bolos famous among Boy Scout leaders). Now my little hobby has begun to take a lot more of my time than I had ever expected due to the large demand, but I do enjoy carving and painting them. For those of you who are woodcarvers, I should mention that I only use a congress style knife to do all of the carving.

What to do with my Live Journal account?!

I actually set up this account because I thought I needed it to talk to friends who have accounts here, but it turns out that it was unnecessary. In reality, I have not done a thing with this journal, but I finally found a use for it! I have been working a some woodcarvings lately that people have been asking to see, so I think I will post pictures here and send them this way when they ask! I suppose I will find other uses for it, but for now that should do. I will try and get some of the pictures posted in the next couple of days.
